Sheep & Lambs SOLD ~ Thank-You Brandon

I have too many sheep for our property. It is time to sell a few, although I am reluctant about this, I love these sheep.

This is Cedar Pond's Valkyrie. She has 5 horns. Valkyrie was born 2/22/2008. Valkyrie had a ram lamb this year and he too is for sale. Valkyrie has a very nice pedigree with lines from Huntsberger, Puddleduck, Swallow Lane, and Bide-a-wee.

This is Cedar Pond's Ruth. She was born 2/4/2008. Ruth has 4 horns, but the horns on both sides of her head have fused giving her the appearance of 2 thick horns. The horns on her right are broken, to much sparring with another ewe. Ruth had twin ewe lambs. Ruth is registered and her twins are registrable. Mother and daughters are $300.00 ~ a starter flock!

Sassy Has The First Lamb of the Year

Cedar Pond's Sassafras ( Sassy) had the first lamb of 2012.

He is tiny, but very healthy.

She seems pleased with him, don't you think ?

Twin Lambs For Naomi !

Cedar Pond's Naomi was the 2nd ewe to lamb here on Cedar Pond. She is getting old, her teeth are getting scarce, but she is still healthy and one of my favorite ewes.

Naomi had twins this year, a ram and a ewe.They are oh so tiny, but very soon after birth they were on their feet and nursing. That is one of the things I love about Jacob sheep, they usually give birth easily and their lambs are up and ready to go in short time. And the lambs are soooooooooooo cute!
The ewe ( girl ) lamb is the smaller and darker lamb. I know I am keeping her, simply because she is probably one of the last ewe lambs I will get from Naomi, and Naomi came from another of my favorite sheep, Ruth. Not a practical reason to keep sheep, way too sentimental, but there you have it, I love some of these sheep more than others.These lambs are Ruth's grandchildren.

The sire of these lambs is Cedar Pond's Goth. I think both of these lambs have 4 horns. I hope the ewe's horns are nicely placed, we'll see.

New Lambs Make My Heart Happy !

Naomi is an old ewe, but her age has not prevented her from delivering a healthy pair of lambs, a ewe lamb & a ram lamb!

Here is Naomi with her lambs, this is the spot against the sheep shed where the sheep sun themselves as they nap.

Bide-a-wee's Buttercup is also sunning herself with her new little ewe lamb. I will be keeping this lamb also...I have set myself a limit of keeping only 2 ewe lambs this year, while I will sell all ram lambs and a few of my ewes along with their lambs later this spring.I am reducing my over-all flock number this coming year for practical reasons.

Red Dogs Supervise...

The sheep get so much attention in this blog one would think we don't really have any red dogs, but we do, yes we do !

The sheep were sheared, and this year was the best shearing weather we've ever had. After snow and an ice storm, I was expecting miserable weather, but the sun shone and it was actually fairly warm. The naked sheep appreciated basking in the sun after their shearing while I skirted their fleeces. I had 3 supervisors who after rolling in the dropped wool, and playing tug of war with each other using discarded clumps of wool, decided to snooze near me while I worked.

Here is Sienna ( center) with her two daughters Willow ( left ) and Bea (right).

They are getting older , as are we all. Sienna is 11 years old, her daughter Willow is 9 years old, and Bea is 7 years old. No more puppies around our place, but when you watch them playing together in the sun you wouldn't know it. It was a pleasant day, skirting & sorting wool in the sun with my 3 red dog supervisors.
