Luna & Sarge Have Puppies

This is Sargento of FIF Farms , aka 'Sarge'. He's a big, handsome , and VERY friendly dog . Sarge could live here any day and fit right in but his best friend Tony G. would never part with this big ol' teddy bear of a dog. ( Tony ?)
Sarge and our dog , a female black Lab named Luna paired up and now have puppies.
This is Creek's Edge Luna-Belle , our dog.You can see in these pictures she is expecting puppies.
Both Sarge and Luna are AKC registered Labrador Retrievers.
Luna is an avid bird hunter, and has been since she could see birds. She points at birds and also retrieves them. She's been known to grab a bird mid-air, run around the house a few times and then deliver a completely undamaged bird ( and still very much alive) to hand. Actually, she's done this a few times.

The picture above is of Luna retrieving deer sheds. She is also an avid shed hunter / retriever.
Luna looking at the love of her life, my husband , for instruction.
On April 4 , 2018 Luna and Sarge became the parents of a litter of 8 Labrador Retriever puppies. 1 lovely yellow female puppy, 3 handsome black male puppies, and 4 pretty black female puppies. This picture ( above) was taken the morning after they were born.
 The puppies grew.....
 ....and grew ,
 and grew.

Pretty soon they were nursing infrequently but always took every opportunity to catch mom for a snack .

The puppies are weaned now, have been wormed and had their first puppy shot. The yellow puppy and one of her brothers have gone to live with their new families, but there are 6 little puppies for sale. 2 male pups and 4 female pups. This is a picture of the little girl pups taken last week.

It has been a long time since we had a littler of puppies and it has been fun. Maybe we'll keep one, what do you say Jim ?

~More pictures  of Luna and the puppies ~

Luna is a small but blocky Lab.

One of the puppies. They're growing so quickly but are still cuddly.
Grandkids and puppies, best combo ever !

Red Dogs Supervise...

The sheep get so much attention in this blog one would think we don't really have any red dogs, but we do, yes we do !
The sheep were sheared, and this year was the best shearing weather we've ever had. After snow and an ice storm, I was expecting miserable weather, but the sun shone and it was actually fairly warm. The naked sheep appreciated basking in the sun after their shearing while I skirted their fleeces. I had 3 supervisors who after rolling in the dropped wool, and playing tug of war with each other using discarded clumps of wool, decided to snooze near me while I worked.
Here is Sienna ( center) with her two daughters Willow ( left ) and Bea (right).
They are getting older , as are we all. Sienna is 11 years old, her daughter Willow is 9 years old, and Bea is 7 years old. No more puppies around our place, but when you watch them playing together in the sun you wouldn't know it. It was a pleasant day, skirting & sorting wool in the sun with my 3 red dog supervisors.

Outdoor Dog Bedding~ Problems & Solutions

This is Misty. She is old, deaf and blind. She still enjoys life though, and especially resting on the porch, which all the dogs love. The problem is , how to keep water dogs who enjoy the outdoors from ruining the porch and their bedding while drying off before coming inside for the night.
Look at the mud on the back porch. Look at the dogs cramming themselves into the crates. Yes, they love the crates, and tussle with each other for the chance to have the crate to themselves. Another dog will eventually roost on top of the crates. The problem is the Viszla loves to always have bedding under himself and he drags the bedding out into the grass, dirt , or mud to sit on. I have watched him drag the blanket or expensive dog cushion around as he follows the sun spots. Smart, but eventually the bedding is soaked or filthy or both and often ruined, especially if the dogs play tug of war with the bedding.

My husband and I don't like the place to look like a doghouse, which is why we put a gate on the back porch and the dogs have to dry off before they come inside for the night. But we also want the porch to look nice. Practical, and nice. What to do, what to do?
I found these dog beds when I googled "Durable dog beds". Up popped these dog beds by Coolaroo at HealthyPets.com . They promise to be durable, easy to clean, and they were relatively inexpensive. They also arrived within 2 days of ordering. I assembled them easily.
Look! Two dogs on each bed.
The dog beds are supposed to be cleaned by hosing down, I like that.
I think the beds are a winner as far as the dogs are concerned. Now I have to again pressure wash the back porch and scrub the railings. We are painting the house this summer ( if summer ever comes ) and then I think I will put a protective barrier on the back porch siding of the house, a WASHABLE protective barrier.

Shortly after I put the beds on the back porch I saw one of the Labs scratching fiercely at the bedding to do her usual shredding of the bedding. The canvas remains undamaged. So far these beds are a big thumbs up for me. I will let you know later if the beds withstand the abuse 4 dogs can dish out.
