Jacob Sheep Ewe Lambs ~ 2016

I had some very nice lambs born here on Cedar Pond this spring. This ( above ) is Cedar Pond's Tasha and her ewe lamb. Tasha is a lilac Jacob sheep, her ewe ( girl ) lamb is black and white. The lamb's sire is Puddleduck Jonas.
Another picture of Tasha and her lamb. The lamb has 4 horns and I am liking her fleece.
Here is Bide-a-wee Buttercup with her ewe lamb. Buttercup had twins, a ram lamb and a ewe lamb, I sold the ram lamb ( he had 5 horns ! ) and am keeping the ewe lamb. The lamb's sire is Cedar Pond's Goth. This ewe lamb has 4 horns.
Here is Cedar Pond's Sassafras with her ewe lamb. Sassafras is 12 years old and still having lovely , healthy lambs. The sire of this lamb is Cedar Pond's Goth. The lamb has 4 horns.Sassafras is also 12 years old and there is a good chance she'll no longer be able to have lambs so I am keeping this little girl lamb.
This is Cedar Pond's Tovah  and her ewe lamb, The lamb has 4 horns and her sire is Puddleduck  Jonas. Jonas is my new ram and I am excited to see how his lambs grow and develop. Their fleeces are looking promising !
Here ( above ) is Cedar Pond's Inga. Inga is Buttercup and Goth's daughter. Her ewe lamb has 4 horns and was sired by Puddleduck Jonas. She has many of the qualities I covet in a Jacob Sheep so I am definitely keeping her !
Cedar Pond's Inga's ewe Lamb sired by Puddleduck Jonas.
Lastly, here is Blitzen. He is almost 3 years old and not a lamb, but he is a wether ( castrated sheep) and acts like a lamb ! He also likes to put on airs and play 'king of the hill'. Just like the other lambs.

Cedar Pond Jacob Sheep for Sale ~

It's that time of the year when the lambs are all growing quickly and I have to decide which sheep to sell . As much as I'd love to keep all my sheep ( especially the new lambs ! ) it gets pretty expensive to feed so many and space is limited. The sheep above is Cedar Pond's Brigida * and she is for sale with her lilac ewe lamb ( girl lamb ). Brigida is registered and her lamb comes with all the paperwork to register her. Brigida is the daughter of Cedar Pond's Goth * & Bide-a-wee Buttercup *.
Brigida has 4 horns that grew out and fused evenly , 2 on each side of her head, making it appear she as two very nice wide horns. Her lamb also has 4 horns , now about an inch to two inches each.
I am selling Brigida and her lamb together for $225.00 for both of them. ( price is for both together)

Cedar Pond's Toril* is also for sale. She turned 1 year old this spring . She has 4 horns. She is the daughter of Shadow Mountain Landon & Cedar Pond's Tovah *.
I am asking $175.00 for Toril. If you buy Toril , Brigida, & her lamb together I will sell her for $125.00. ( $350.00 for 3 very nice Jacob Sheep ewes!)

Shadow Mountain Landon is also for sale. He is a registered 4 horn Lilac Jacob Sheep. He is 3 years old . He is related to most of my sheep now and I prefer not to use him for breeding with my flock, but he'll make a great ram for someone needing new bloodlines and wanting to add Lilac coloring to their flock. Landon ( I call him Tonkin ) is the son of Mud Ranch's Packard & Rocky Acres Rosemary. Both of his parents are lilac and 4 horned. He is a triplet. I am asking $225.00 for him. He has recently been sheared and vaccinated.

New Lambs , Good Mamas !

First born lamb of 2015 ( February 12, 2015 ). He is a fine ram lamb from Bide-A-Wee Buttercup & Cedar Pond's Goth. I am hoping his horns turn out well balanced because Buttercup is getting older and I'd love to keep a ram lamb from her and the lamb's father, Goth.
Buttercup & her newborn ram lamb.
The same morning Cedar Pond's Sassafras gave birth to a ewe lamb. The last 2 years she gave birth to twins, but Sassafras is getting older and her ewe lamb is a bit tinier than I expected given the girth Sassafras was sporting before she lambed. In spite of how tiny this lamb is, she is very healthy. This lamb is also sired by Goth. Goth is getting old too, and I am hoping there is a lamb sired by him worthy of keeping for my future generations of Jacob Sheep.
Sassafras was a very diligent mom, licking & licking her lamb to clean off the afterbirth. This also bonds the mama and her lamb. This little lamb was nursing her mama very quickly , a good thing for lambs, and all newborns. The first milk any mama produces gives newborns colostrum that provides not only the newborn her necessary  nutrition, but the anti-bodies the little lamb needs for a good start in life. ( ALL newborns of all mammal species need this ! ) Ideally this happens within the first hour for optimum benefit. If I discover a mama has not been able to suckle her lamb within the first 2 hours I will milk the mama and feed the lamb the needed colostrum , giving the lamb a boost and increasing the chances the lamb will thrive.
Sassafras was not happy with me so close to her and her new lamb. She put herself in between me and the lamb , blocking any contact and any more pictures. I love knowing my mama sheep are good and protective mamas. That is the way God made them. And really, would YOU want to challenge a very protective mama with horns ?

New Lambs !

Bide-a-wee Buttercup and her new ewe lamb , born this afternoon. Three lams were born within the last 24 hours , I have 5 more ewes left to lamb. This little ewe lamb was sired by Cedar Pond's Goth.
Cedar Pond's Mahlon was the first ewe to have her lamb. A handsome ram lamb sired by Shadow Mountain Tonkin. His 4 horns are already protruding . I think he'll have 4 very nice horns.
This little ewe lamb was the second lamb born , also sired by Shadow Mountain Tonkin .
Buttercup and her new ewe lamb.
I love this time of the year !

Cedar Pond's Brigida

The ewes are fluffy and hopefully will lamb in late February and early March. I did not put any ewes with my rams until late in September, with the exception of my cross-bred ewe Delilah who is due to lamb anytime now.
This is cedar Pond's Brigida, daughter of Cedar Pond's Goth & Bide-a-wee Buttercup.
Brigida looks like a 2 horned ewe but actually has 4 horns.
2 horns on each side of her head fused making the 4 horns appear to be 2 very nicely curved strong horns. Brigida is a tall lanky Jacob sheep, like her mother.

Buttercup's Lamb

This is Buttercup's ewe lamb sired by Goth , born this past spring. Her 4 horns are evenly spaced, but she broke one sparring with older ewes. She is very large compared to my other lambs, like her brothers and sisters before her. I haven't thought of a name for her yet. I think it will be a floral name starting with the letter 'B' though.

Buttercup's New Lamb ~

Buttercup had her lamb yesterday. A Sunday afternoon lamb. Here is the new baby fresh out of the womb.
It's a girl! A baby girl lamb is called a ewe lamb. 'Ewe' means female sheep.A lamb is a baby sheep.Ewe lamb !
Momma and baby are doing very well. The lamb was up and bouncing before she was dried off from birth. She was suckling her mother within the hour. What a miracle, what a blessing ! I love lambing season here on Cedar Pond. ( The lamb is the daughter of Cedar Pond's Goth and Bide-a-wee Buttercup. )

Bluebonnet Vickie is the daughter of Cedar Pond's Goth too.The lambs from Buttercup have all been large, grown quickly, and pleased me.I am keeping Vickie, and hope to continue many generations from Buttercup, a ewe from a Huntsberger ram.

New Lambs Make My Heart Happy !

Naomi is an old ewe, but her age has not prevented her from delivering a healthy pair of lambs, a ewe lamb & a ram lamb!
Here is Naomi with her lambs, this is the spot against the sheep shed where the sheep sun themselves as they nap.
Naomi's little ewe lamb. I think I will be keeping her.
Bide-a-wee's Buttercup is also sunning herself with her new little ewe lamb. I will be keeping this lamb also...I have set myself a limit of keeping only 2 ewe lambs this year, while I will sell all ram lambs and a few of my ewes along with their lambs later this spring.I am reducing my over-all flock number this coming year for practical reasons.
Buttercup with her lamb and Naomi's ram lamb (center front).

My lambs are so cute they make my heart sing with happiness !

Lambs ! 2011 Jacob Sheep Lambs

Delilah, my half Jacob and half Romney ewe lambed 2 /26/2011.
Delilah gave birth to one ram lamb who is mostly black and is now sprouting 4 well spaced horns. Delilah lambed the same day in the same place as Cedar Pond's Thora. I am pretty sure Thora had triplets, but somehow she claimed only one ewe lamb and left 3 little ones milling about trying to nurse from a very confused Delilah.
Delilah claimed two little ram lambs and they are thriving.
Thora and her little ewe lamb. 2/26/2008 ~ I am bottle feeding the lamb neither claimed, and Cindy is doing very well.

Sassafras and her ram lambs. 2/21/2011
First lambs born here and doing well. Cedar Pond's Viking is the sire.

Bide-a-wee Buttercup and her ram lamb. Buttercup is also the mother of last years' Cedar Pond's Barbarian who is for sale. Look at the horns already sprouting from this lamb's head, first day of birth, OUCH ! Cedar Pond's Goth is the sire of this lamb.
Bide-a-wee Chicory and her twin ram lambs born 3/3/2011. Cedar Pond's Goth is the sire of these ram lambs, Chicory and her lambs are for sale.
They are so cute, it is too bad they grow up into rams. A person can only keep so many rams you know.Anyone interested in buying Chicory will get these handsome ram lambs with her, they can be registered and should be magnificent rams.

Cedar Pond's Mara and her wee little ewe lamb, born 3/3/2011. Cedar Pond's Viking is the sire. Mara has 5 horns, two have fused together making it look like she has 4 horns.

Bide-a-wee Chicory and ram lambs.

Cedar Pond's Valkyrie and her ram lamb, born 3/17/2011.
